The original Genjiyaki restaurant

Genji Yaki Izakaya in Phrom Phong (close to the station Asoke) is A popular restaurant serving "Genji Yaki" using fresh ingredients directly from Hokkaido. “Genji Yaki” is a simple method of grilling skewered fish over charcoal on a robata. The far-infrared effect allows the fish to become plump and juicy while retaining the original aroma of the material. This restaurant offers a delightful dining experience with an impressive variety of grilled dishes, including grilled fish and Hokkaido Wagyu, which has been praised for its tenderness and flavor. The atmosphere is cozy and perfect for casual dining, although the noise from the chefs can startle some guests. The staff is attentive and friendly, and there are various promotions that enhance the overall value, especially during happy hours. Although some reviewers noted the food could be heavily seasoned, the quality of the grilled items and the selection of drinks contribute to a fulfilling meal. Overall, it's recommended for those looking to enjoy a good meal with friends.

We stumbled upon this restaurant as we walked to the train station every day and decided to give it a go. The staff are very friendly. We had eaten a large lunch so did not order any of the main dishes of grilled fish and meat, but I would like to try this next time. The edamame was perfect, warm and salted just right. The deep fried oysters , beef tongue and fish rolls were also delicious. The tempura was “ok” , batter was not very good but this was our oversight as this is a robata restaurant, so tempura is not its forte. The interior reminds me of the inside of a mountain lodge, I’m not sure if that is intended but great for casual dining. Also has a great drinks menu. We would dine here again.

**Rating:** 8.5 stars out of 10 First of all, the location is great in Sukhumvit 31. However, it's challenging to find a good parking spot. Unfortunate i was not park in front of the restaurant 100 meters walk for me and my GF, especially since it was a rainy day for me. The service was excellent from the moment we entered until we left. Being taken care of by Japanese staff ensured an authentic Japanese dining experience. The waiters were attentive but not overly so. The person manning the grill appeared to be from India or Pakistan, which made me confident in his grilling skills (based on the general expertise in shisha from that region). The food was delicious and well-seasoned, especially the grilled fish and shrimps – make sure you order both. They also had exciting seasonal ingredients. Overall, it was a delightful meal.

Good drinking place for seafood and others common Japanese dishes. Value for money during happy hour and for their special promotion items. Nothing much to complain about. Staff was very attentive, also because we were one of the few patrons on a weekday evening. The restaurant was almost empty. The place was cozy, suitable for group gatherings after a day of work

First visit on this quiet wet week day night. Dining room had one other table occupied. Thick extensive drinks menu, while food was kinda limited. Izakaya japanese pub grub, fried stuff and etc. What I've come in for was for their robatayaki grilled fish. And boy, I was not disappointed. Fresh hamachi cheeks grilled to perfection. The grilled gyutan served with a yuzu kosho, I can mop off a bowl of rice with this. Food overall was heavily seasoned for obvious reasons. So I do appreciate the 700ml gigantic mugs of booze. Oh yes! This is definitely for one of those nights out with close friends.

First of all, the staff won my heart. Our waitress was very attentive. She even secured my family a parking spot in front of the restaurant. The chefs were kind of loud though. I mean I understand it's a Japanese thing, but I got startled every time they shouted... \\(- -)// This place is known for their grilled dishes, Hokkaido Wagyu, and Cheese Pasta. I'm not a steak person, to be honest, but I fell in love with their Hokkaido Wagyu. The beef was served Blue Rare (probably?) along with hot stone for you to grill each piece yourself. The beef was really soft like it could melt your mouth. It was even better when I hate it with salt and wasabi. I would come back again for their Hokkaido Wagyu. Right now they have a 50% deal so make sure you try it. The Cream Pasta was good. The Tofu Salad also went well with the creamy dish. I also ordered a grilled Hokke which was very fresh, but I felt like it was a little too salty without rice. We ordered some Salmon Sashimi and Hokkaido Snow Crab Cake which were ok. They weren't bad, but they were not exceptional either. There was also a promotion that offers each person a small side dish of (pickled?) Wasabi Octopus if you give them a review on Google (I was going to write them a review regardless so thanks hehe). Ok, even though it was a complimentary dish, it was so good that we finished it in a blink. Price-wise, I don't think this place is overly priced at all given the quality of food you get and its location. It's best to order what they're known for, however.
